Earthbrooke Farm
Event Description

We are a small sheep and beef farm on the slopes of Mt Pirongia. We are passionate about sustainably managing our farm to produce meat and wool. We mainly run sheep as they are better suited to some of our steeper hill country. We have romney x perendale sheep for meat and wool, and we also have a small flock of rare breed Gottland sheep which we grow specially for their wool.

Come and meet our friendly Gottland sheep whose wool we use for spinning and felting - see shearing and spinning demonstrations. You are welcome to do a range of farm and bush walks - see how many of our more than 25 species of birds, and numerous tree and fern species, you can spot. If the weather is fine you can enjoy great views across the Waikato. It can be cool and windy up here - bring a warm windbreaker and a kite to fly. Learn about our farming operation and about the geological history and soils of the area. There will be tractor rides for kids (of all ages) and a chance to check out our sheep and cattle yards and some other farm machinery.

Our farm also includes 60 acres of QEII covenanted (protected in perpetuity) native bush which has some lovely mountain streams and rich biodiversity. We took over this farm, in a very run-down state, about 15 years ago. We have done a lot of work to improve the infrastructure, pasture quality, and weed control, especially gorse. We also undertake predator pest control, to support native bird and plant life, targetting possums and rats.
