Event Description

Phytofarm is a large medicine garden of medicinal plants. I love my farm life so the idiom of - find something you love to do and never work another day fits my lifestyle at Phytofarm.

I bought this property in 2002 a bare piece of land and built a workshop/processing shed and drying room in 2004. Sold my business (Canterbury College of Natural Medicine) and house in Christchurch and moved here 2004. I am a self made women paddling my own canoe - (though I did four years of education in natural medicine and graduated in 1980). Two years ago I invited Andrea & Peter Bay to come and live with me - they have invested in the business. Andrea helps with production of products/workshops and Peter is a graphic designer. I love introducing people to healing plants showing them how they can have their own medicine garden and I teach an apprenticeship programme where people can learn about what I do.

A garden tour in February will be the summer garden and I will show visitors how to identify the correct plant with some info on specific plants of that season. How to use their senses in a herb garden to discover the amazing properties of healing plants. I will offer demonstrations, a tisane blending and making a healing salve. Our beautiful products will be offered for sale on the day!

Important for visitors - those interested in the plant world, I think, will enjoy seeing the life of a herbalist in her garden!!!!
